Born 27th September 1977 in Braga, Portugal.
Through the use of the photographic camera as a tool to extract visual elements out of the ordinary world, Pedro is interested in exploring the fragilities of a medium that often fails at creating objective and indisputable descriptions of the real. By deliberately mixing elements drawn from both spontaneous and constructed events, Pedro’s aims at exploring the notion of truth in photography.
Pedro is also the co-founder of XYZ Books Lisbon, a bookshop and publishing label specialized in the production and divulgations of photo-books.
Departing from the implications that the photographic apparatus has had in the dynamics of gaze, these series invite the viewer to meditate on the observation of the many different systems of representation and imitation that give sustainability to our contemporary society.
In a world overflowing with photographic imagery of ever growing technical quality and visual vibrance, making seeing both a painful and a joyful experience, ‘Beautiful, True and Good’ makes use of the aesthetics and language of advertising photography as an attempt to decipher notions historically inherent to photography itself, such as beauty, truth and objectivity.
